Lord Vishwakarma Puja

Lord Vishwakarma is the son of Brahma and presiding deity of all architects and craftsmen. Vishwakarma Puja is performed to show reverence to Lord Vishwakarma. Being endowed with skills to create cities and weapons, he is also known as the ‘Devashilpi’ or the ‘Divine Carpenter’. Vishwakarma Puja is performed to show reverence to Lord Vishwakarma. According to Hindu scriptures he is one among the fourteen valuable things that came out after churning of ocean ( Samudra Manthan).

The Vishwakara Day is an auspicious day dedicated to lord Vishwakarma and is celebrated after Diwali across eastern, Central and Southern states of India. Craftsmen and industrial workers celebrate this day as Vishwakarma Jayanti Puja with unbridled enthusiasm.

Importance and significance of Vishwakarma Puja

According to Hindu scriptures, it is the Viswakarma who created the entire universe,the heaven and the earth. He is credited with the construction of best weapons of war that were put to use by Gods themselves. One story suggests that this ‘Divine Architect’ had also engineered City of Dwarka, towns of Indraprastha, Hastinapur and Sone Ki Lanka. However, his name might not be a household name but he is highly revered among working class. During Vishwakarma puja, all the tools of the trade are cleaned to appease Lord Vishwakarma.
